A DARK CONTINENT
Can a hungry man be inspired?
A question of less than a dollar worth
the mother of questions
of a continent-the birthplace of the Negro Country

Leviathan yet somewhat diminutive
land of the rich diamonds
and its precious kindred
Now a shoal dungeon for porcine particles
kitsch of dark souls forgotten

Blooming spectabilis
oil field, virginised habitat
whored and raped.

Protean land
transforming godly men to
soulless dark ghoulish creatures
human at the dawn of civilization
grotesque formless beast of nephilim substance
at the brink of twilight

In a dark continent
Africa has been called dark
before invention of the sun - dial
reminiscent of the gloom epoch of foul stillness
of chancer's paradise

Wasteland suited for
vultures and jackals and
anything unwholesome
barbaric and unworthy to be called earthly

A gangrenous appendage
reeling in break neck speed of Malthusian premonition
the danteresque anteroom
to the nine stages of hell on earth.

The topic of sexual violence still remains largely ignored even in this age. Sadly, like every public health challenge, denial only worsens its menace. It carries patriarchal, misogynist and gender bias undertones. It thus becomes pertinent to acknowledge the scourge of sexual violence in our national and cultural life.
