FATAL HAPPY ACCIDENT

Image
On that day when the thing called fate careered our paths in speed beyond our control. We were young and naivety wore itself over our budding bodies like grim. We were neonates, ignorant of where the road to this adventure leads. My life had just been put out like a candle fire in a violent storm and everything seemed out of order, only memories of foolish childhood dreams swathed me like a newborn. And the phantoms of life's hard knocks created long icy-cold nights. Ill luck blew around me like wild destructive winds. My happiness traded for every tramp-like aspiration on the long lonely streets of fulfillment. Our paths had crossed - in the most uncertain way. You and I - we had hailed from separated universes as a doctor as to her patient, like a goddess to her faithful. There and then, the immortal court drafted a contract of eternal love between us at an address no one but us has wisdom of. That had been my rebirth...my moment of healing. On that fateful day, I b

HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR BUSINESS EFFICIENCY

Image
HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR BUSINESS EFFICIENCY (AVOIDING THE FIVE SINKHOLES) There's nothing we hate more than a snicker, a cynical remark and a thoughtless, insensitive vocalization of the dark thoughts of a business person (using Nigeria as a case study). For starters, I am a budding entrepreneur (can't really claim to know much of anything. Right?) Being on both sides of the spectrum, that is, as a passionate consumer and an enthusiastic service provider have revealed a number of sinkholes in the average Nigeria market today (local or otherwise). #Not being sincere (We see the eye rolling…the body language and trust me, it shows like a picture behind a plane glass). #The “Mad-as-a-Hatter” attitude : I don't think you need to be in business if you get easily irascible at the slightest provocation. #The Haughty Snob: Come on! You’ve got to learn to be courteous to matter what (we know it is not in your character to say 'thank-you' for nothing b

LIKE ROCKY MOUNTAINS:

Image
LIKE ROCKY MOUNTAINS: 👲 Education, its Stakeholders and the Convocation Day in Nigeria? Life isn't a straight line curve but rocky like the rocky Mountains... The things they don't tell us at the ribbon-lined, wrought-iron gates, just a short walk away from the life market. On the day, friends and a sea of strange faces look at you in your priestly gown and say 'look at him, he's so lucky' So what happens at the thresholds, after the flood of accolades ebbs and you enter the life market? You won't be out of place to feel a little confounded. Like a new born delivered to a strange whole new world. Then it hits you fast, the fact that nothing within those high four walls of the varsities would be sufficient on its own to see you through life. Nope! not even your school nor your grades. One of my teachers, a pious geriatric would often say - 'Boy, at some point in life, we are bound to be checkmated. If you are checkmated early, you are in

MR. SNOOTY

Image
MR. SNOOTY Here comes Mr. snooty the corpulent snob who lives in every rung of the societal ladder - in the crescent moon, the crucifix and our homes he is decorated with medals of false grandeur and pips of countless mischief. Here comes Mr. snooty in his gaudy flowing local paraphernalia, fluttering loudly in the wind like the wings from the camp of bats. Here comes Mr. snooty they say, 'he came from the bottom of the earth' they say, 'only yesterday' he was just another homeless, in the company of other homeless bandits in the ghetto. Here comes Mr. snooty in a world like in a dream he emerges as the head of his tribesmen. Here comes Mr. snooty the master of the uncouth in the land the godfather of crooks dispossessing ordinary people of the fruit of their sweat by his far-reaching policies eating deep into our national greenery like a caterpillar every penny in sight in the glass houses. Here comes Mr. snooty 'he is snottiest

THE MYSTERY ELEMENT (a poem about fathers)

Image
THE MYSTERY ELEMENT Do you know any element? who's glorious nature is both glorious yet hidden it is in no particular class- nothing comes close like a priceless ornament so pure, its relative abundance is in the lowest margin it is the only second conjugate, the only one important as the portal of the humankind, from the timeless universes the papi of nations he is called - Such element is strange sometimes for our puerile minds to fathom yet it is constructed in the most enduring awesome way it is a didactic story - a torch we bear through the dark days of lives. Father is the origin ; the metallic strength of the human race. the element is the rarest kind of gemstone - in the earth of greatest life's inevitables. let us follow the fathers in our nucleus; our clans, communities and nation the star of the fathers is incomparable to any in the entire universe they are the blueprint of life translated in us all the positive other side the good-

THE CHILD, THE GUN AND HIS SPOILS

Image
THE CHILD, THE GUN AND HIS SPOILS A child like every seed is born he learns the ways of his fathers he learns to grow against all odds  a fine craft created. A boy is born preinstalled with a million lofty dreams, the visions on the homefront - like his contemporaries to sojourn on that ritualistic journey to the city on the hill top made of gold today we remember him - not for the cackles of a little boy running around in diapers We are reminded of the odyssey of his mind lugged by the Devil's gift wrapped in a ruddy teenager. The Gun... a prosecutor asking - "why am I different?" "why can't i fit into this hollow shaft set for me in the world of the running dusty roads and - sprawling skyscrapers?" the substance of a putrid age-old tradition melted into my being. How is it that among my kinsmen I now behold the reflection of a fearsome beast a taboo to all mankind alike- young and old. The

THE SECOND COMING

Image
THE SECOND COMING who will save us - Oh man kind? we ask. when will our salvation come - that we seek earnestly? when will our prayers receive answers and when will our dining tables - be filled with answered prayers. we have toiled and laboured unendingly in the currency of our blood and sweat yet as the sun winds down each day Petitions we are -  made to serve like helpless vagrants  for our lifelines to the wager in the high frosty office as we seek his holiness  on the issue of our human rights. When will we reap the greatness preached in those good days of- 'when I am opportuned to serve'... In this land - Do the young princes ever become kings? Will they ever stop singing tear-filled juju rhymes  that only scald the core of their verdant souls. And will in our life time -  all the lofty prophecies, yet proclaimed by the esoteric league of elites  from their respective constituencies be fulfilled in this generation or the next- if

Make-Believe

Make-Believe  What if We have all been living - This well-scripted piece called Nigeria? What if We have all conscripted - Into these roles And we didn't even need to apply – For the current audition? What if All this unbelievable things were not facts, The visual effect of a screen play And the technology is so esoteric - No one can wrap their minds around now? What if The daily roll-call of killings The social injustice The unholy gratification of corruption Of God's own people Were just Make-believe. What if One day, We wake up from our lifelong hallucinations To find We have been dreaming of - a carnage Or at best our respective Utopia...

WHAT'S LIFE REALLY WORTH?...a poetic charge

WHAT'S LIFE REALLY WORTH?...for the common man in Nigeria what's life worth...? dying for a cause;  the high level corruption;  the socio-economic rape;  psycho-spiritual bondage;  bigotry;  wars, tension & strife;  advanced fee fraud;  ethnic cleansing;  slavery;  violence;  extrajudicial & ritualistic killing;  narcissism;  justice miscarriage;  nepotism;  lethal silence;  immunity to horror. Is life worth...? those grains of sand between your toes or a place in heaven in the golden palaces of the  Middle East, under the auspice of an highly spirited atmosphere. Is it what we cheat for...to the extent of killing? and at what price? Is it worth the deception that has put me, you, our entire homeland in eternal mental &  spiritual bondage? Is it worth the interminable wars where nations constant the weakest link among brother  nations from Africa to other continents? Is it what makes men defile their daughters
